About this speed test
This measures your connection the same way a dedicated speed-test app does — by sending and receiving real data and timing how fast it moves — except it runs entirely as a web page, with no app to install and no account to create. Download and upload run continuously and simultaneously for as long as the test is active, giving a live, moving picture of your connection rather than a single snapshot.
Ping is the round-trip time for a small request to reach the test server and come back — lower is better, and it's what determines how "instant" things like video calls or online games feel, independent of your raw download speed. Jitter is how much that round-trip time varies from one request to the next; a connection with low jitter feels smooth even at modest speeds, while high jitter can cause stutter even on an otherwise fast connection.
Tests run against Cloudflare's public speed-test network and automatically stop after 10 minutes if left running. Each completed test is added to the history above, saved in your own browser's local storage on your device — the same as everything else on Foliovex, it's never sent anywhere, and "Clear history" removes it for good.
Common questions
Why is my result different from the speed my ISP advertises?
ISPs advertise a "up to" ceiling under ideal conditions, not a guarantee. Wi-Fi signal strength, other devices sharing the connection, network congestion, and distance to the test server all pull real-world results below that number — that's normal, not a sign anything is broken.
Why is my upload speed lower than my download speed?
Most home internet plans — especially cable and DSL — are built asymmetrically on purpose, with far more bandwidth allocated to download than upload, since most browsing is download-heavy. A big gap between the two is expected, not a fault with your connection.
Does this tool send my data anywhere?
This is the one tool on Foliovex where the honest answer is yes, and we'd rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise: measuring a real connection means exchanging real data with a server, so this test sends and receives disposable bytes with Cloudflare's public speed-test network. That exchange is meaningless test data only — nothing else, no files, no personal information, no data from anywhere else on Foliovex, is ever involved.
What's a good ping and jitter?
Under roughly 50ms ping with jitter under about 10ms feels instant for gaming and video calls. Higher numbers matter less for everyday browsing or streaming, where raw download speed carries most of the experience.
Why does running download and upload together read lower than testing each alone?
Both directions share the same one connection, so running them at the same time is a genuinely harder test than isolating either one — that's real network behavior showing up accurately, not measurement error.
Is there a limit to how many times I can run this?
