Whiteout a PDF
Cover anything on the page with a white box.
Your file stays in this browser.
You don't have to take this on faith:
- Open your browser's developer tools (F12, or right-click → Inspect) and click the Network tab.
- Select a file and use this tool as normal.
- Watch the Network tab — no request fires when you select, process, or download. If your file were being sent anywhere, it would show up there.
About Whiteout a PDF
Whiteout works like correction tape: drag a box over a word, a stamp, a line or a smudge and it's covered in white. Then add new text on top with Add text. It's the quick way to tidy a page — but the covered content is still in the file underneath, so for anything confidential use Redact, which removes it for good.
Common uses
- Hiding an old date or phone number and writing the new one over it.
- Removing a stray mark, stamp or handwritten note from a scan.
- Clearing a filled-in form so it can be used again.
Common questions
Is whited-out text really removed?
No — it's covered, not removed. Someone could still select or copy it from underneath. To remove sensitive text for good, use Redact.
Can I move or remove a box after drawing it?
Yes — until you save, click it with Select to move or delete it, or turn it into a redaction. Undo works too.
Can I write on top of the white box?
Yes. Switch to Add text and click on the box — or, to replace words that are part of the PDF itself, use Edit text, which does both in one step.
